Visitation Rights in TexasWhenever children are involved, it is important for parents to maintain a respectful relationship with one another. Even after divorce you will be forced to interact and make decisions involving your children for many years to come. Many parents are capable of negotiating a visitation schedule that works for both parties. When a negotiated visitation agreement is not possible, the parents will be compelled to abide by the "Standard Possession Order" imposed by the court. In most situations, Texas courts consider both parents having some form of joint child custody ("joint managing conservatorship") to be in the best interests of the children. One parent will be designated the noncustodial parent ("non-primary joint managing conservator"). The noncustodial parent will have visitation rights, which are frequently referred to as "parenting time." More information about child custody and visitation At the Houston law office of Bruce C.
